Solar PV Grid Tie
This system generates electricity when the sun is shining. A two way meter sells surplus to the electricity company and draws electricity when you need it. Until recently this was a cost prohibitive installation.
However, on the 1st February 2010 the Government announced the final tariff details for the proposed Feed In Tariff (FIT). This now makes the installation of photo-voltaic systems a good long term investment typically returning over 8% which will rise as the price of electricity rises.
Approximate Figures:
Each kWp of solar PV will
• Require 8-10m of roof space
• Produce approximately 1000kWh per year
• Save almost 1/2 ton of Carbon Dioxide per year
• Cost around £5500 to install and commission
